delivery of 25 new Asphalt Rail Cars.
On Thursday, June 29, 2007, Martin Asphalt Company took delivery of the first 25 of 40 new asphalt rail cars from TRINITYRAIL’s Longview assembly facility. Each 25,300 gallon capacity car incorporates two innovative features.
First, critical flow control valves are relocated to the underside of the cars, making them more operator accessible and controllable in both standard operating and emergency situations. Second, each car features a unique heating coil system which provides a more consistent and uniform content heating throughout the tank, thereby minimizing heel buildup and maintaining capacity and efficiency over time.
As part of the lease program with TRINITYRAIL, the Martin Asphalt personnel and other product loaders and dischargers are being given specific, on-location training in how to most effectively work with these new features. This TRINITYRAIL provided service is designed to significantly expand the usable life of these railcars.
The addition of these 40 railcars enhances Martin Asphalt’s stable of transportation vehicles which already includes railcars, a fleet of trucks, and inland and blue water barges strategically located along the Gulf Coast. These assets significantly increase the company’s total product transportation capacity as well as its ability to more effectively control its supply chain.
These “state of the art” railcars give Martin Asphalt greater flexibility to quickly and effectively meet inbound delivery and outbound sales requirements from within the North American continent.
